Step 1: Gather Your Supplies
Get everything you need to start your canvas stenciling project:
- A Canvas – Either a blank one or an old one that you want to paint over.
- A Stencil – Choose from Stencillo's wide selection.
- Tape – Washi, masking, or painter's tape.
- Stencil brush.
- Acrylic paint.
- Paper plate to dab off excess paint.
Step 2: Secure Your Stencil
Decide where you want the stencil on your canvas and use tape to secure it in place. Optionally, you can use repositionable adhesive spray to make sure it stays put.
Step 3: Paint Carefully with Stencillo
Apply a small amount of paint to your brush, dab off excess, and lightly coat the stencil in an up-and-down motion.
Pro Tip: Press down on the stencil edges with your finger as you go to create a good seal, preventing paint bleed.
Note: If you used adhesive spray, you can skip this step, but it helps achieve a crisp outline without it.
Step 4: Repeat with Additional Coats
Stencil with light coats, building up layers to achieve your desired color. Multiple light coats are better than one heavy coat to avoid paint bleeding under the stencil.
Step 5: Let Dry and Remove the Stencil
Once fully dry,
carefully remove the stencil. If adhesive residue is left from the spray, use your finger or tape to remove it.
